How to Transfer Bilt Points to Japan Airlines (JAL) Mileage Bank (2026 Guide)

Bilt added Japan Airlines Mileage Bank on May 13, 2025, and unlike most of Bilt's other airline partners, the transfer runs at a full 1:1 ratio. Points typically post within about 10 minutes, though Bilt's official commitment window is up to 24 hours, so it's worth building in a small buffer before a same-day booking push.

JAL sits inside Oneworld, which means Mileage Bank miles aren't limited to JAL's own metal. The same balance can book American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, and Alaska Airlines award space, giving renters a genuinely global redemption menu from a currency most people only think of as a way to reach Tokyo.

JAL runs two separate charts. Flights operated by JAL itself are priced on a fixed, zone-based international chart — as of the chart JAL rolled out in June 2025, a one-way economy ticket from the US to Japan starts at 27,000 miles, premium economy at 40,000, and business class at 55,000. First class is seasonal rather than flat: 110,000 miles in low season, 125,000 in regular season, and 140,000 in high season. When saver-level business space isn't open, JAL often still sells 'Award Ticket PLUS' inventory at a higher, availability-driven mileage rate well above the 55,000-mile saver price — but that PLUS option does not apply to first class, so JAL First is only available on the seasonal saver chart or not at all.

Flights operated by Oneworld partners — American, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, and the rest — fall under a separate distance-based chart, where the total mileage of the itinerary (plus any connecting segments) determines the price rather than a fixed zone. That structure rewards routing choices the way most distance-based partner charts do: a shorter total itinerary is a cheaper award, even to the same final destination.

JAL's newest First Class product — a fully enclosed suite with a sliding door — flies exclusively on the Airbus A350-1000, and only out of Tokyo Haneda (HND), on routes to JFK, LAX, DFW, London Heathrow, and Paris CDG. That's the seat worth building a trip around.

JAL still flies an older First Class cabin on its 777-300ER fleet, including flights out of Narita (NRT). It's a genuinely good seat with tall privacy partitions, but it stops short of a fully enclosed door — worth knowing before you lock in a redemption expecting the newer suite, since JAL's booking tools don't always make the aircraft distinction obvious at a glance.

JAL's own site is generally reliable for searching JAL-operated award space, but Oneworld partner inventory — American, British Airways, Cathay Pacific — doesn't always display accurately online, and booking it frequently requires a phone call to JAL Mileage Bank's US reservations line.

Because Bilt gives itself up to 24 hours to complete a transfer in edge cases, confirm live award space before you initiate the transfer, and don't count on same-day posting if you're booking against a fast-moving award release.
